Selection Guide
How to choose sds max drill bits
SDS Max bits run in heavy rotary and combination hammers, usually 5 kg and above. Buyers switch from SDS Plus to SDS Max for larger diameters, deeper holes and heavily reinforced concrete — and those three factors also decide which SDS Max bit to specify.
Ask an engineer which sds max fitsWhen SDS Max beats SDS Plus
The 18 mm SDS Max shank transmits much more impact energy than the 10 mm SDS Plus shank. In practice that means faster drilling from about 16–20 mm upwards and much better life in deep holes. Below 12 mm SDS Max is rarely worth it; the machine is heavy and the bit costs more.
Diameter and length go together
SDS Max sizes are usually ordered in pairs of total length — for example 340 mm and 540 mm for the same diameter — so crews can start short and finish long. Rental fleets and contractors typically keep 540 mm as the default and order 920–1000 mm for through-wall and slab work.
Rebar decides the head
Heavy-hammer work is mostly in reinforced concrete. A cross (4-cutter) head is the minimum; solid carbide 4-cutter heads have no brazed joint at the tip and survive repeated rebar contact far better. For distributors serving construction sites, solid heads are the better margin product because they come back less.
Anchor holes: tolerance still matters at large diameters
Heavy-duty anchors and rebar connections set with chemical mortar are specified to a hole diameter. PGM-certified SDS Max bits are checked for diameter and tip symmetry, so the hole matches the anchor approval. For tender and infrastructure work, ask for certified bits in writing.
Check the machine fit
All SDS Max bits fit all SDS Max chucks (Bosch, Hilti TE, Makita, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Metabo). What differs is impact energy: a 5–6 kg hammer drives 16–28 mm well, while 32–40 mm bits want an 8 kg-class combination hammer.
| Job | Typical diameter | Typical total length | Recommended head |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heavy anchors, chemical mortar | 14 – 25 mm | 340 / 540 mm | Cross or solid carbide 4-cutter (PGM) |
| Rebar connections (post-installed) | 16 – 32 mm | 540 – 920 mm | Solid carbide 4-cutter |
| Through-wall and slab penetrations | 20 – 40 mm | 920 – 1000 mm | Cross head, four-flute |
| General heavy demolition drilling | 16 – 28 mm | 340 – 540 mm | Cross head |

Specify the head
Seven carbide heads for sds max bits
All heads are brazed at 1200 °C on MAHLER automatic lines. Choose by the material your buyers drill most; we can also mix heads within one size run.
Flat (one-piece) tip
Classic single carbide blade. Fast in brick, block and plain concrete; lowest cost per bit.
Best for: Brick, block, plain concrete
Flat tip with centring point
Single blade with a ground centre point for exact spotting without walking.
Best for: Anchor holes in finished surfaces
Cross (4-cutter) tip
Two carbide blades in a cross: rounder holes, longer life when hitting aggregate and light rebar.
Best for: Reinforced concrete, anchor setting
Cross tip with point
Cross head with centring point — the all-round choice for PGM-grade hole accuracy.
Best for: Chemical and expansion anchors
3-cutter tip
Three blades for smoother drilling and less vibration in hard natural stone.
Best for: Granite, hard stone
Solid carbide 3-cutter head
Full carbide head, no brazed joint to fail — our premium rebar-rated option.
Best for: Rebar-rich concrete
Solid carbide 4-cutter head
Full carbide 4-cutter head for the longest life in heavily reinforced concrete.
Best for: Heavy reinforced concrete, pro users
Flute
Helical flute
Standard twin flute for fast dust removal in general drilling.
Flute
Square flute
Deeper flute volume for long bits and deep holes.
Flute
Four-flute
Four flutes for maximum dust clearance and stability in heavy-duty hammers; custom profiles available.
Manufacturing evidence
Tested by PGM, brazed by machine
PGM (Prüfgemeinschaft Mauerbohrer e.V.) checks hole diameter tolerance, carbide tip symmetry and drilling performance of masonry drill bits so that anchors set to their rated load. Dehui has been a member since 2009. Within this category the certificate covers: SDS Max Hammer Drill Bits — 5-Slot Shank.

ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certificates and the full PGM test reports are available to buyers on request.

FAQ
SDS Max buyer questions
What is the MOQ for sds max drill bits?
100–200 pcs per size for sds max drill bits. You can mix sizes within one series and combine sds max drill bits with other lines in the same shipment.
Are all sds max drill bits on this page PGM certified?
No — PGM certification covers specific series: SDS Max Hammer Drill Bits — 5-Slot Shank (DH02). These carry the "PGM certified" badge. Other products in this category are made on the same lines but are not within the PGM certificate scope.
How are the carbide tips attached?
By automatic brazing at 1200 °C on German MAHLER lines followed by furnace heat treatment of the body. This is the main difference between a bit that keeps its tip for the life of the flute and a cheap hand-brazed bit.
Can I get sds max drill bits with my own brand?
Yes. Laser marking on the shank, printed blister cards, plastic cases and retail boxes are all available. Private-label orders start at 100–200 pcs per size; artwork approval adds about one week to the 20–30 days lead time.
How fast can you deliver sds max drill bits?
Standard sizes ship in 20–30 days after deposit. Samples go out in 5–7 days, free for standard sizes with courier collect. FOB Ningbo / Shanghai; CIF to Singapore, Port Klang, Jebel Ali or Dammam on request.
What information do you need for a quote?
Shank type, diameters and total lengths (or just the codes from our size tables), quantity per size, carbide head preference if any, and packaging (bulk, blister, case or box). A photo of what you buy today also works — we match it.

Buyer's Guide
SDS Plus vs SDS Max: Which Shank Do You Actually Need?
SDS Plus (10 mm shank, 4–32 mm bits) runs on 2–4 kg rotary hammers; SDS Max (18 mm shank, 8–40 mm bits) on 5–12 kg hammers. A drill bit factory explains the real differences, compatibility, and how to buy the right mix.
